There\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/sparktogether\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">marketing conference in Seattle<\/a> in a few weeks. I\u2019m sure you bought your ticket already, but if you haven\u2019t, let\u2019s fix that <a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/sparktogether#tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">right here<\/a>. Good? Good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seattle is one of my favorite places to go, and it\u2019s not just because my colleagues are based here. I love the cool weather, the kind but standoffish people, the coffee, the seafood, the significant trees (which, yes, is a real term). I sneakily asked Rand for his recommended places, mainly because I just wanted to know his favorite places. And because I\u2019m lucky, his wife Geraldine DeRuiter and our friend\/colleague Kristy Bolsinger added their two cents as well. Now I\u2019m sharing them with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put these on your itinerary, my friends. I\u2019m saying \u201c10 minutes\u201d pretty loosely. It might be a 10-minute walk, or it might be a 10-minute drive. I assume you\u2019ll get in on Tuesday, October 15th. SparkToro product training is at 2pm, so you might want to grab lunch or a drink before you head over to our venue, Block 41 in Belltown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Great Lunch Spots in Belltown:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/umi-sake-house-seattle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Umi Sake House<\/a>: Great space, good for happy hour, delicious food.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/kedai-makan-seattle-6?osq=kedai+makan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kedai Makan<\/a>: A must if you Malaysian food is your jam (or if you&#8217;ve always wanted to try it!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/bangrak-market-seattle?osq=bangrak+market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bangrak Market<\/a>: Thai it, you&#8217;ll like it! I know, I am truly the worst.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/manzoku-izakaya-seattle-2?osq=Manzoku+Izakaya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manzoku Izakaya<\/a>: Cute restaurant, fresh ingredients, and good for groups!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/pasta-casalinga-seattle?osq=Pasta+Casalinga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pasta Casalinga<\/a>: I mean, name ONE person who doesn&#8217;t like squid ink pasta. But they have other stuff too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Coffee:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/anchorhead-coffee-centurylink-plaza-seattle?osq=anchorhead+coffee\">Anchorhead<\/a>: A staple. They&#8217;ve got a handful of locations, and this is a solid pick.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/moore-coffee-shop-seattle?osq=moore+coffee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Moore Coffee<\/a>: Very cute with lots of latte art. (I am a black coffee monster so this charm may be lost on me.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/macrina-bakery-and-cafe-seattle-2?osq=macrina&amp;override_cta=Get+information\">Macrina<\/a>: Also great for pastries!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/uptown-espresso-belltown-seattle?osq=uptown+esspresso\">Uptown Espresso<\/a>: And they have breakfast burritos!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/monorail-espresso-seattle?osq=monorail+coffee\">Monorail<\/a>: Open early with great coffee\/espresso-based drinks.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Smoothies:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/verve-bowls-downtown-seattle-4?osq=verve+bowls\">Verve Bowls<\/a>: Who doesn&#8217;t love a good acai bowl? Just make sure you get some protein with it because that makes it even better for you. You know what, do whatever you want, I&#8217;m not your mom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/pluto-organic-cafe-seattle?osq=pluto+organic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pluto Organic<\/a>: Yummy smoothies, gluten-free options, and near the Space Needle, which is convenient if you&#8217;re doing a twofer. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After product training, you might want to head to your hotel to drop off your bag then meet us at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/here-today-brewery-and-kitchen-seattle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Here Today<\/a><\/strong> for happy hour. (We\u2019ll cover food, hope you won\u2019t mind covering your drinks.) Afterward, if you want something more filling or if you want more drinks, you might want to consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dinner (cheap-ish)<\/strong>: Okay \u2014 real talk: Seattle is literally one of the most expensive cities in North America. So &#8220;cheap&#8221; options don\u2019t really exist in this town. However, here are a few places that won\u2019t <em>entirely <\/em>break the bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/asean-streat-food-hall-seattle?osq=Asean+Streat+Food+Hall\">Asean Streat Food Hall<\/a>: Great if you want to try a variety of foods!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/dough-zone-dumpling-house-downtown-seattle-seattle?osq=dough+zone\">Dough Zone Dumpling House<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/lil-woodys-seattle?osq=lil+woodys\">Lil\u2019 Woody\u2019s<\/a>: Great burgers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/uwajimaya-seattle?osq=Uwajimaya+Food+Court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Uwajimaya Food Court<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/dinos-tomato-pie-seattle?osq=dino%27s+tomato+pie\">Dino\u2019s Tomato Pie<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dinner (mid range) (You\u2019ll likely want to make a reservation at these places)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/le-pichet-seattle?osq=le+pichet\">Le Pichet<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/matt-s-in-the-market-seattle?osq=matt%27s+in+the+market\">Matt\u2019s in the Market<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/virginia-inn-seattle?osq=virginia+inn\">Virginia Inn<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/black-bottle-seattle-2?osq=black+bottle\">Black Bottle<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/palace-kitchen-seattle?osq=palace+kitchen\">Palace Kitchen<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/roccos-seattle?osq=rocco%27s\">Rocco\u2019s<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/radiator-whiskey-seattle?osq=radiator+whiskey\">Radiator Whiskey<\/a> (it\u2019s pricey but if you can get in during Happy Hour it\u2019s not too bad)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/rione-xiii-seattle?osq=Rione+XIII\">Rione XIII<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/cafe-suliman-seattle?osq=cafe+suliman\">Cafe Suliman<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/artusi-seattle?osq=srtusi\">Artusi<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/osteria-la-spiga-seattle?osq=Osteria+La+Spiga\">Osteria La Spiga<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/shiros-seattle?osq=shiro%27s+sushi\">Shiro\u2019s Sushi<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/meet-korean-bbq-seattle?osq=meet+korean\">Meet Korean Barbecue<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dinner (Fancy pants) (You\u2019ll need a reservation for ALL of these places)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/maximilien-seattle?osq=Maximilien\">Maximilien<\/a> (ask for a table with a view &#8211; or bundle up and see if you want to enjoy their incredible patio)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/sushi-kashiba-seattle?osq=Sushi+Kashiba\">Sushi Kashiba<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/tilikum-place-cafe-seattle-3?osq=Tilikum+Place+Cafe\">Tilikum Place Cafe<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/wa-z-seattle?osq=Wa%27z+Kaiseki+Restaurant\">wa\u2019z<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/il-terrazzo-carmine-seattle?osq=Il+Terrazzo+Carmine\">Il Terrazzo Carmine<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/driftwood-seattle?osq=driftwood\">Driftwood<\/a> (West Seattle)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Or perhaps another bar:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/the-doctors-office-seattle?osq=the+doctor%27s+office\">The Doctor&#8217;s Office<\/a>: Our friend Andrew Bohrer tends bar here! You\u2019ll remember him from <a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/blog\/the-best-damn-food-drink-gift-guide-2024\/\">our past food &amp; drink guides<\/a>. We highly recommend meeting him at his bar. The tough thing, though, is that you have to make a reservation and there\u2019s only about 10 seats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/radiator-whiskey-seattle?osq=radiator+whiskuy\">Radiator Whiskey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/damn-the-weather-seattle?osq=damn+the+weather\">Damn the Weather<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/navy-strength-seattle?osq=navy+strength\">Navy Strength<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/zig-zag-cafe-seattle-2?osq=zig+zag+cafe\">Zig Zag Cafe<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/white-horse-tavern-seattle?osq=white+horse+tavern\">White Horse Tavern<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But maybe don&#8217;t get too crazy because the next morning is the SparkTogether conference! We\u2019ll provide coffee and pastries for breakfast. If you want something else, consider these spots about a quarter-mile from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.block41.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Block 41<\/a> and open at 7am:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/bang-bang-cafe-seattle-3?osq=bang+bang+cafe\">Bang Bang Cafe<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/biscuit-bitch-seattle-9?osq=biscuit+bitch\">Biscuit B*tch<\/a> (Note from Geraldine: I hate the name of this place, but people seem to love it. Note from Amanda: I do! I should probably be embarrassed but I love it.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/lola-seattle?osq=lola\">Lola<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/bacco-cafe-and-bistro-seattle-2?osq=bacco+cafe\">Bacco Cafe<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll provide lunch and an afternoon whiskey tasting. And then the afterparty? We\u2019ve got that too. We can walk over to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/flatstick-pub-south-lake-union-seattle?osq=Flatstick+Pub+-+South+Lake+Union\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flatstick Pub &#8211; SLU<\/a> together. I\u2019ll even let you beat me at mini golf. I\u2019m a gracious winner but a very sore loser. I\u2019m about as un-fun at bar games as you can imagine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since we\u2019ll wrap up late, I hope you\u2019ll stay through Friday! You can do some sightseeing, find a co-working space, or both. Consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Snagging a co-working space:<\/strong> If you\u2019re looking for a place to post up for several hours, you could pop into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spacesworks.com\/seattle\/belltown\/\">Spaceworks<\/a> in Belltown. If a coffee shop is more your speed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/storyville-coffee-company-seattle-9?override_cta=Book+a+consultation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Storyville Coffee Company<\/a> seems to be a good place for this. For a cozy but still professional vibe, check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/the-office-at-adas-seattle-2?osq=Coworking+Space&amp;override_cta=Book+a+consultation\">The Office at Ada&#8217;s<\/a> (where I think it&#8217;s about $20 for the day).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you are not a nerd like Amanda, perhaps you&#8217;ll want to go sightseeing or shopping&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sightseeing:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pike Place Market<\/strong>: it\u2019s not just a tourist destination \u2014 it\u2019s where a lot of Seattle residents and restaurateurs get groceries and supplies. You can find gifts, jewelry, art, clothes, antiques, books, and more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Seattle Aquarium:<\/strong> it just got revamped and the boardwalk also makes for a great walk if the weather is nice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ballard Locks<\/strong> and exploring the surrounding Ballard neighborhood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Arboretum and Japanese Gardens<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chihuly Glass Museum and the Space Needle<\/strong>, I guess\u2026 if you like needles for space. Actually, I don\u2019t know anything about this landmark; maybe you can find out for me.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Air &amp; Space Museum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Nordic Museum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Elliot Bay Bookstore<\/strong> and the Capitol Hill neighborhood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ferry to Bainbridge Island<\/strong> cute shops and restaurants just off the ferry, and a lovely view of the sound<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shopping: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a bit of a bummer, but Seattle has some of the worst retail in America for a city its size. Shopping here isn\u2019t that great, but if you are willing to dig a little, you can find some cool stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fun snacks right across from the SparkTogether venue: <\/strong>Pop into <a href=\"https:\/\/mixedpantry.market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mixed Pantry<\/a> right across the street from Block 41 for some delicious Asian snacks in gorgeous packaging. This recommendation comes courtesy of SparkTogether attendee Esther Wang! The rum chocolate and peking duck popcorn are definitely on our list to try.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ballard Avenue<\/strong>: a bit of a drive away from downtown, but home to lots of little indie boutiques and shops.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Elliot Bay Book Company<\/strong>: a destination for any avid reader, this sprawling bookstore spans two stories that you can easily get lost in<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ada\u2019s Technical Books<\/strong>: a delightful bookstore with a specific, STEM-my angle that covers everything from science to science fiction, business to children\u2019s books.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>University Village<\/strong>: looking for something more mainstream? U-Village has all the shops you know and love in one giant place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fremont:<\/strong> This quirky neighborhood is a quick drive north of downtown and has boutiques, gift shops, antique shops, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There you have it.
