{"id":118,"date":"2020-09-08T09:52:57","date_gmt":"2020-09-08T16:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sparktoro.com\/support\/?page_id=118"},"modified":"2025-06-16T15:01:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T22:01:09","slug":"examples-of-useful-sparktoro-searches","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/support\/examples-of-useful-sparktoro-searches\/","title":{"rendered":"Examples of useful SparkToro searches"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Examples of useful SparkToro searches<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SparkToro is very good at revealing the attributes and characteristics of audiences when certain types of searches are used.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are six types of SparkToro queries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Searches for:<\/strong> Research the audience that searches for this keyword on Google<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Visits the site:<\/strong> Research the audience that visits a website\/domain<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Profile contains:<\/strong> Research the audience that has these words in their public social media profile<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Visits the URL: <\/strong>Research the audience that visits a specific URL \u2014 not just the domain<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Custom audience:<\/strong> Upload your own .CSV list of data, and we\u2019ll find that audience for you. There isn\u2019t a hard number of line items that we need, but in general, we recommend at least 500 (and a minimum of 50). Here are the datasets that we\u2019ll read and interpret: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Domains &#8211; websites relevant to or visited by your audience, and should be in the format of \u201cxyz.tld\u201d <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keywords &#8211; terms and phrases your audience is likely to search for in Google<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email Addresses &#8211; Email addresses from your list(s) or manually entered, segmented however you wish.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Conversational Query:<\/strong> Describe your audience with natural language; using our LLM \u201cAudience Agent,\u201d we\u2019ll find your audience for you, present you a confirmation step, and if you approve, run that analysis.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, here are examples of good and not-so-good searches based on the SparkToro query type:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>SparkToro Search Type<\/strong><br><strong>\u201cResearch the audience that\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Good Searches<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>(Potentially) Bad Searches<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u2026searches for the keyword<\/td><td>Pasta recipes; B2B marketing; interior design<\/td><td>Reading&nbsp;<br>(If you\u2019re an author and want to find potential readers for your new book, you might be tempted to try this broad query. But, because book readers would rarely use a super-broad search terms like this, the query is unlikely to yield relevant insights. Try searching for a keyword that more closely describes your book and is likely to be searched-for by a relevant audience, e.g. \u201cnonfiction history\u201d or \u201cyoung adult fantasy books.\u201d<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u2026visits the website<\/td><td>cancerresearch.org; thesill.com; apartments.com&nbsp;<\/td><td>nytimes.com&nbsp;<br>(The New York Times has a lot of visitors on every topic. This search is likely too broad to be meaningful)<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u2026uses these words in their bio<\/td><td>VP sales; php developer; journalist<\/td><td>Former baby&nbsp;<br>(This is a jokey way that some people choose to self-describe on social media. But it\u2019s not a great search because it doesn\u2019t tell you about who this audience is.)<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are you trying to find sources of influences in a particular hobby or sector?<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>Say you want to learn more about the audience that\u2019s interested in environmentally-friendly fashion. They might search for the term \u201csustainable fashion\u201d on Google, so you can try that as your first SparkToro search:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/product\/search\/overview?keyword=sustainable%20fashion&amp;type=keyword\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research the audience that searches for the keyword: sustainable fashion<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You\u2019ll see the influential websites, press, Social Accounts, YouTube channels, Subreddits and podcasts. You\u2019ll also see their demographics and their other search keywords. One of the influential websites in this audience is TheGoodTrade.com. That can be your next search!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/product\/search\/overview?keyword=thegoodtrade.com&amp;type=domain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research the audience that visits the website: TheGoodTrade.com<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Voila! An even larger dataset that shows you more insights about this audience. These are more related to fashion than sustainability, however.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/product\/search\/overview?keyword=sustainable%20fashion&amp;type=bio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research the audience that uses these words in their bio: sustainable fashion<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you have any paid SparkToro plan, you can go to Demographics &gt; Bio\/Profile Terms and see the popular words used in bios. These can power your next search! \u201cSustainable fashion\u201d were some common words in the demographics of our original example search, and this yields even more insights. Remember, these are people who put the words \u201csustainable\u201d and \u201cfashion\u201d in their public social media profiles. This is likely to signal that they work in one of these industries or that they\u2019re very passionate about the sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are you in the B2B space, trying to figure out what moves your audience, your clientele, or prospects?<\/strong> Try searching by their job title or by keyword.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/product\/search\/overview?keyword=b2b%20marketing&amp;type=bio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research the audience that uses these words in their bio: b2b marketing<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This works well if the audience you\u2019re trying to reach works in B2B marketing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sparktoro.com\/product\/search\/overview?keyword=customer%20retention&amp;type=keyword\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research the audience that searches for the keyword: customer retention<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Say you\u2019re trying to reach folks in B2B SaaS. Is a person who works in B2B SaaS likely to search for the term \u201cB2B SaaS\u201d on Google? Probably not. But they might be searching for something like \u201ccustomer retention,\u201d because they\u2019re cognizant of growing their business.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When running a keyword-based SparkToro search, It\u2019s helpful to think about what they might be searching for or what their intent might be. You could consider using pain points as potential keywords.
