“Rand, I love that SparkToro tells me which search and AI tools my audience is using, but… could you also tell me what they’re searching and prompting?”
For a long time, the answer was only yes to 50% of that request. Starting today, we’ve got it all. Research any audience in SparkToro and we’ll show you the prompt topics they’re using alongside the affinity of that topic. What’s more, you can click “see examples” on any topic and get a list of specific prompts similar to what your audience is using in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, and Claude.
Here’s a quick breakdown 👇
For clarity, we are not getting this data directly from the clickstream panel, and our recent research on AI inconsistency shows why. No two prompts are ever the same, and yet, despite that variability in what people type in, the answers are often extremely similar. That’s because of how LLMs work, how they use query-fan-outs, reduce words to their core meanings, and identify underlying intent. And we can take advantage of that.
Leveraging this knowledge of how AIs work, we fed search keywords (that we know audience’s search for in Google/Bing/etc.) alongside other audience data (like the description, websites, etc.) into the AI and requested, via API, a list of likely topics, scored by affinity, and based on the real audience data. Given the success our research showed with synthetic prompts, it seemed likely this would produce high quality, useful results.
Behold and see for yourself!

Am I 100% certain that these topics of research are the ones Knitting hobbyists shopping for fiber art materials are most likely to prompt AIs about, in exactly this order? No. Is it likely better than anything else you can get (without spending thousands on custom clickstream data)? Absolutely.
And the example prompts are pretty useful, too:

Take these, export/copy, paste into you AI tracking tool of choice (or vibe code your own system), run the prompts a few dozen times, and presto, bingo, you’ve got AI visibility stats on prompts and topics that are strongly connected to your audience’s real behavior in search and web visitation.
This is just v1.0 of our foray into AI prompt data, so please, use it, interrogate it, and give us your feedback (support@sparktoro.com). We’ve been quite impressed with this first iteration, but there’s always room for improvement.
