Casey’s back with a brand new invention. This time, it’s estimated TAM: Total Addressable Market Size, one of the most requested features from SparkToro customers that we’re thrilled to finally have in the app.
In any SparkToro report, you’ll now see TAM at the top of your reports, alongside a methodology breakdown, e.g.

Audience for the above report: Computational chemists at pharmaceutical companies who are seeking to identify particular molecules that fit criteria for the treatments they’re trying to create (and the 1-2K size was validated by someone in the field for me earlier today as “almost certainly correct!”)
TAM uses SparkToro’s underlying dataset of LinkedIn profiles, social crawls, and clickstream panel data in combination with some very clever LLM requests designed by our very own Kristy Morrison to produce estimates that have consistently impressed us. And this was no easy task. We’ve been beating our heads against the TAM problem for months, and even gave up entirely for a stint, until the joint magic of better data (on our end), better models (from the LLMs), and a vastly improved prompting system (from Kristy) saved the day.
Obviously, you can prompt any AI tool to give you data like this, but… we think you’ll be MUCH happier, and certainly more consistently impressed with the accuracy, when real SparkToro data is combined with LLM predictions. We’ve seen night and day numbers when real data’s sent to the LLM vs. a raw prompt on its own, especially with trickier, niche fields (and very large groups of consumer-style audiences, too).
Have a look for yourself at a few examples from recent reports we’ve run:

Audience for the above report: Product managers at software companies responsible for testing the impact of new features.

Audience for the above report: Tailors and custom clothing makers seeking to source British and Italian cloth for suits, jackets, and trousers

Audience for the above report: Small, independent law firms seeking to replace their tech stack with a single software solution that can handle documents, emails, tasks, deadlines, billing, and contacts
Not too shabby, eh? We can’t guarantee that every market sizing estimate will be as good as these, but that’s why we’re launching this feature: to get *your* feedback. If you’ve got a few minutes in the next few days, run a few reports on the audiences you know best and let us know (via support@sparktoro.com) if you encounter any oddities or wildly incorrect numbers.

And just in case you’d like to tell everyone you know, I made this handy dandy New Feature Alert graphic 😉😎.
