Using SparkToro in ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI assistants

Last updated 2026-08-05

SparkToro is available through MCP (the Model Context Protocol), the open standard that lets AI assistants connect to outside tools. Once you connect SparkToro, your assistant can build audience reports and pull insights from them in plain English, no copy-pasting between tabs.

Because MCP is a shared standard, the same SparkToro connection works across any assistant that supports it, including ChatGPT and Claude. Connect once in the client you use, and the capabilities are the same everywhere. For full setup instructions, see the SparkToro MCP docs.

What MCP gives your assistant

When SparkToro is connected over MCP, your assistant can:

  • Create new audience reports from a natural-language description.
  • Check the status of a report it just built.
  • Pull any of the audience sections (websites, podcasts, social accounts, demographics, brands, press, YouTube channels, subreddits, search keywords, and more).
  • Estimate market size.
  • List your past reports and check how many you have left this billing period.

Reports created over MCP count against the report allowance on your SparkToro plan, just like reports you create in the web app.

Connecting SparkToro

In ChatGPT

  1. Search the Apps directory. Open ChatGPT, go to Apps, search for SparkToro, and click Connect.
  2. Open directly. Visit chatgpt.com/apps/sparktoro and click Connect.

In Claude

Open Settings → Connectors, add the SparkToro connector, and follow the prompts to connect.

In other MCP clients

Any assistant or tool that supports MCP can use the SparkToro server. Add it as a connector or MCP server in that client, then authorize it. The SparkToro MCP docs have the server details and step-by-step setup.

The first time you connect, you'll be asked to sign in to your SparkToro account so the assistant can access your reports.

What you can ask for

Once connected, you can ask things like:

  • "Build a SparkToro audience for B2B marketing leaders at SaaS companies in the US."
  • "What podcasts does the audience listen to?"
  • "Show me the top websites and the demographics breakdown."
  • "List my last few SparkToro reports."
  • "How many reports do I have left this billing period?"

Tips for better results

  • Describe people, not topics. "B2B SaaS founders" works; "SaaS marketing" doesn't.
  • Put location, age, profession, and interests into the prompt. Your assistant will pass them through to SparkToro.
  • For a country other than the US, mention it. SparkToro supports US, UK, and Canada audiences; finer geography (states, cities) goes in the prompt itself.
  • Wait for the report to finish before asking for sections. Your assistant will poll for status automatically, but very fast follow-up questions may show partial data.

Coming soon

A REST API for direct programmatic access is in early access. If you want to build SparkToro into a custom workflow, join the API waitlist.
